About Us: Main Conductor Musicians Notable Performances
Omaha Symphonic Winds is a select group of talented adult musicians from the Omaha metropolitan area who perform concerts of outstanding original band compositions and orchestral transcriptions. The ensemble was founded in August 2009, holds 501(c)3 non-profit status, and is registered as a public benefit corporation in the State of Nebraska.
The purpose of Omaha Symphonic Winds is to benefit:
1. Residents of metropolitan Omaha by providing the opportunity to hear outstanding compositions from both of the wind band and orchestral repertoires.
2. Member musicians by providing an outlet for the performance of quality compositions at an artistic level, and by providing a venue for social interaction among these skilled players.
3. Music students of metropolitan Omaha by providing the opportunity to hear artistic wind band performances, and through exposure to great musical works from both the band and orchestra repertoires.
Omaha Symphonic Winds is led by its founder and conductor Dr. William Hall, former trombonist in The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) Washington DC, The United States Army Field Band, and former Director of Bands at Dana College. The 60 member musicians of OSW are drawn from area band directors, music teachers, retired military musicians, and area professionals.
Membership in Omaha Symphonic Winds is by audition. Auditions consist of a prepared solo or etudes that demonstrate the musician’s technical and expressive abilities, some required excerpts, and sight reading. Talented instrumentalists who have graduated from high school are encouraged to contact Dr. Hall at whall@omahasymphonicwinds.org or 402-575-8220 for more information.
